Job Description For Assistant Librarian

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a qualified and experienced assistant librarian to join our team.

For all staff in school we share a responsibility to ensure that children are safe and properly supervised at all times. Core Purposes

  • To promote a love of reading to all children and to ensure the library is well stocked, well managed and organised
  • To take an active role in the day to day running of the school for example supporting with the teaching of reading etc.

Key Duties Include

  • To actively engage with children to encourage them to enjoy reading
  • To manage the library- including the issuance, stock control and cataloguing of books
  • To support the accelerated reader programme
  • To ensure the library is organised, comfortable and welcoming
  • To order books
  • To support the learning and teaching of reading including reading aloud to groups and promoting authors and genres
  • To contribute to the wider life of the school- being positive about the work of the school to make The Aquila School the school of choice for the community
  • To organise and promote events such as- author visits, literature festival, book fairs etc.
  • To be available for all primary CAS nights and for early children in the morning

In addition, all staff are required to carry out any tasks required by the school or the regional office to facilitate the smooth day to day running of the school

  • Qualification in Library science or similar
  • Genuine interest and live of children’s literature
  • Ability to inspire children to love reading
  • Ability to read stories allowed
  • Computer literate
  • Absolute belief in the school vision
  • Kind, happy and friendly persona
  • Organised
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience of a similar role
  • Experience of working in school with children
  • Ability to speak Arabic

To be line managed by our Head of Primary.

Hours of work- 8am to 1:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 12pm on Fridays occasional evening and weekend work.

In addition, all staff are required to carry out any tasks required by the school or the regional office to facilitate the smooth day to day running of the school

Holidays- as per the school KHDA approved calendar. In addition to staff training days we would expect the post holder to be available for up to 5 days per year during school holidays
