Role Overview
The Offshore Assistant Controller supports the financial integrity and day-to-day accounting operations of a growing, luxury short-term rental portfolio. This role is responsible for executing core accounting functions, including reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close support, revenue and expense validation, and financial reporting preparation. Working closely with U.S.-based leadership, the Assistant Controller ensures timely, accurate, and organized financial data across multiple properties, bank accounts, and operating entities. This position requires strong attention to detail, process discipline, and the ability to operate independently in a remote, fast-paced, and highly transactional hospitality environment.
Essential Functions
Support and execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense schedules
Perform and document bank and credit card reconciliations
Assist with monthly revenue reconciliation across booking platforms and PMS systems
Support cash flow tracking
Prepare sales tax filings and maintain supporting schedules
Maintain the integrity and accuracy of Sage Intacct
Assist with property onboarding accounting setup and financial tracking
Support external tax preparers with required documentation and schedules
Maintain organized documentation for audit and compliance purposes
Assist in monitoring insurance policies and renewals
Identify accounting workflow inefficiencies and recommend improvements
Support finance-related integrations between PMS, payroll, and accounting systems
Maintain standardized reconciliations and reporting templates
Coordinate with outsourced vendors supporting bookkeeping or finance functions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
4-6+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience supporting U.S.-based companies
Experience in hospitality, short-term rental, real estate, or multi-entity environments preferred
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP fundamentals
Proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar accounting software
Strong Excel skills, including reconciliations, pivot tables, and financial schedules
Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
Experience with payroll processing and related reconciliations
Working knowledge of U.S. sales tax filing requirements preferred
Familiarity with property management systems (e.g., Guesty or similar) is a plus
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Ability to maintain regular overlap with U.S. business hours
Close attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-transaction environment
Ability to work independently in a remote setting
