Purpose

You will manage and develop the EIBG art collection in alignment with the Bank’s strategic priorities, in order to support contemporary European artists, promote young talent, and reflect the institution’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and social progress through a clear accessioning and deaccessioning strategy.

Operating Network

The Art Collection Curator role sits within the broader management framework of the EIBG corporate art collection, reporting directly to the head of Asset and Property Management. Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement the artistic vision and curatorial strategy for the collection to ensure alignment with the Bank’s priorities and mission, resulting in a cohesive and meaningful collection.
  • Lead the strategic accessioning and deaccessioning process based on artistic value and institutional relevance, ensuring the collection evolves thoughtfully and purposefully.
  • Engage with contemporary European artists and emerging talent to identify and support promising works, enriching the collection’s cultural significance.
  • Curate exhibitions and interpretive programs that communicate the collection’s themes of sustainability, innovation, and social progress, enhancing visibility and engagement.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to the Art Committee on art acquisitions, deaccessions, and artist collaborations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Artwork Collection Manager to ensure that curatorial decisions are effectively implemented in terms of collection care, logistics, and compliance.
  • Represent the Bank’s art collection externally, specifically with peer organisations, by liaising with artists, galleries, cultural institutions, and partners to promote the collection’s profile and objectives.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Art History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in curating, managing, or developing contemporary art collections, preferably within a corporate, institutional, or museum environment.
  • Proven track record in strategic accessioning and deaccessioning of artworks aligned with institutional goals.
  • Experience engaging with contemporary European artists and managing artist relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience organising exhibitions, educational programs, or public engagement initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of contemporary European art movements, artists, and emerging trends.
  • Familiarity with principles of sustainability and social responsibility in the arts.
  • Understanding of collection management standards, conservation principles, and legal/ethical considerations in art curation.
  • Strong curatorial vision with the ability to develop and implement strategic art collection plans.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in collection inventory and management software (e.g., MuseumPlus, TMS [The Museum System], ArtBase, or similar platforms).
  • Competence in project management and budgeting.
  • Analytical skills to assess artistic value in line with institutional priorities
