The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for Aircraft Engine Mechanics (WG-8602-10) to join the team at the 12th Maintenance Group, Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph AFB, Texas! In this role, you will troubleshoot, modify, repair, and perform final functional and operational tests of aircraft engines, their components, and associated equipment on associated T-38 aircraft.

Hourly wage range for a WG-10 position at Joint Base San Antonio - Randolph: $30.84 - $35.99

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoots J85-GE-5 malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines on the flight line or in maintenance inspection environments.
- Interprets trouble reports or observed instrument readings, appearance, etc., and makes a tentative diagnosis; selects needed tools and test equipment; disassembles the engine or accessories to locate and determine the cause of the defect; and the repairs needed.
- Analyzes problems such as fuel fluctuation, compressor instability, or excessive vibration and takes remedial action. Determines when assemblies, components and parts are operating properly; whether portions must be repaired or replaced; and the type of adjustment and alignment needed.
- Disassembles, repairs and reassembles aircraft engines, their assemblies, and components.
- Uses standard and precision measuring instruments such as vibration analyzers to detect and locate the source of vibration in reduction gears or engine rotors; pyrometers to check engine combustion and test benches that read multiple parameters in oil, vacuum and torque.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
- US Citizenship is required.
- This is a drug testing position. The employee is subject to random drug testing
- Requires an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license (OR) associated military experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces.
- Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items that way about 50 pounds with mechanical lifting devices or with assistance from other workers.
- Shift work may be required and emergency overtime may be required (on a very rare basis).
