The Satellite Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, functionality and availability of satellite systems, facilities and solutions across GDMO. He/she is responsible for satellite facilities such as uplink and downlink, IPTV, mobile news gathering and fiber links. The Satellite Engineer works closely with the Broadcast Engineer and the Network Engineer to provide engineering functionality across GDMO, in line with GDMO’s strategic vision and requirements. The role holder is expected to demonstrate teamwork skills and carry out his/her duties in accordance with the relevant business policies and procedures.

General Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with others across Engineering and IT, to support GDMO with all their engineering technology needs
Provide metrics and supporting documents to the Section Head - Engineering and IT/Unit Head to assist with producing monthly KPI reports
Manage the implementation of the strategic vision for Engineering Satellite activities, to achieve the strategic objectives set out for the department in line with the overall GDMO strategic vision
Identify Engineering Satellite budget requirements based on planned initiatives in line with the strategic vision developed for Engineering to support the GDMO strategy
Engineering Satellite Activities
Maintain and operate satellite uplink facilities (fixed and movable) as needed to facilitate activities across GDMO teams and requirements
Maintain and operate satellite downlink (receiving) facilities, including fixed and non-fixed services, as needed and as used within GDMO
Operate and maintain satellite/baseband to IP gateways ensuring all required feeds are available on IPTV
Support and maintain IPTV set top boxes for GDMO office requirements
Support and maintain mobile news gathering solutions, providing options for changes as needed
Support and maintain all fiber and MPLS links, ensuring on-going maintenance as needed
Maintenance and Support Activities
Respond to Engineering unplanned operational issues, outside of normal routine or preventative maintenance
Conduct upgrades and modifications to all satellite technology, systems and facilities as required to ensure smooth operation and uptime
Provide first level support for all satellite-related issues and queries
Support and maintain CAR/Data Center facilities including CCUs, UPS and Environmental Monitoring
