CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY (IN-CPHR-IUINA)

The position will be focused on Alzheimers research. This role is primarily within the IUSM-Purdue Target Enablement to Accelerate Therapy Development for Alzheimers Disease (TREAT-AD) Center, a drug discovery program supported by the National Institute on Aging, dedicated to innovative translational research leading to new treatments for Alzheimers Disease.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides project oversight and leadership, and manage laboratory operations, including data reporting and supervision of research personnel.
  • Leads efforts to identify, validate, and advance novel drug targets.
  • Oversees the design, development, execution, and interpretation of pharmacology studies.
  • Develops, validates, and implements preclinical cellular models to evaluate novel therapeutic strategies.
  • Collaborates with medical chemists, ADME-PK/PD scientists, toxicologists, and clinical pharmacologists.
  • Runs cellular pharmacology lab including experimental design and implementation of assays for drug discovery research programs.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs highly complex and intricate laboratory experiments.
  • Leads protocol development, data analysis and report preparation.
  • Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises lab staff and student employees; assures observation of safety policies.
  • Maintains fiscal accountability of the program and approves all expenditures for the lab.
  • May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
  • May present research findings to staff, leadership, and external partners.

EDUCATION/WORK EPXERIENCE

Required

  • Masters degree in science-related field plus 3 years of research experience OR
  • Bachelors degree in science related field plus 6 years of research experience

Preferred

  • 10 years of experience in pharmacology, translational biology, and drug discovery in academia, biotechnology, or the pharmaceutical industry

Preferred

  • Experience developing and implementation cellular or biochemical assays to support target identification, validation, and pharmacological characterization of novel therapeutics.
  • Experience managing a research lab and coordinating complex collaborative projects.
  • Experience working collaboratively with translational science teams composed of pharmacologist, medical chemists, ADME/PK scientists, and toxicologists.
  • Experience managing external research collaborations, including contract research organizations (CROs) and academic labs.
  • Experience in translational pharmacology, assay development, and multidisciplinary drug discovery collaborations, especially with bioinformatic, structural biology, and medicinal chemistry.
  • Complete knowledge and understanding of multidisciplinary drug discovery programs spanning target identification, pharmacological optimization of clinical candidates, and preclinical to clinical development of novel therapies.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.

$80,000 - $90,000 per year based on experience and internal equity within the division
