Job Description

A Horticulture Manager plays a vital role in managing and overseeing the cultivation and maintenance of plants, gardens, and landscapes. This position typically involves working in a variety of settings, including nurseries, public parks, botanical gardens, or private estates. As a Horticulture Manager, your primary responsibilities will include planning and coordinating horticultural projects, supervising a team of horticulturists and gardeners, and ensuring that all plant care activities adhere to industry best practices and environmental standards. This role requires a strong understanding of plant biology, pest management, soil science, and landscape design. Moreover, the ability to work collaboratively with other stakeholders, such as landscape architects and environmental planners, is crucial to the successful execution of horticultural projects.


Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee the maintenance of gardens and green spaces efficiently.
  • Develop and implement horticultural programs and strategies for plant care.
  • Manage and mentor a team of horticulturists, gardeners, and support staff.
  • Coordinate with landscape architects to design aesthetically pleasing layouts.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards and regulations at all times.
  • Monitor plant health, identifying and controlling pests and diseases effectively.
  • Conduct soil analysis and recommend appropriate soil treatment methods.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure cost-effective horticultural operations.
  • Engage with vendors for the procurement of plants, tools, and accessories.
  • Promote conservation practices and sustainable landscaping initiatives actively.
  • Organize training sessions and workshops to enhance staff horticultural skills.
  • Report project progress and horticultural outcomes to senior management regularly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, botany, plant science, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in managing horticultural operations.
  • Strong knowledge of plant biology, pest management, and landscape design.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities are essential.
  • Proficiency in using horticultural assessment tools and project management software.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with various stakeholders effectively.
  • Commitment to environmental sustainability and sustainable horticultural practices.
