The Radiology Technician is responsible for operating diagnostic imaging equipment, preparing patients for radiological procedures, and ensuring the safe and efficient execution of radiologic tests to assist physicians in diagnosing medical conditions. The role requires knowledge of various imaging technologies, patient care skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Preparation:
Explain radiological procedures to patients, ensuring they understand the process and addressing any concerns.
Prepare patients for imaging by positioning them correctly and ensuring their comfort and safety during the procedure.
Record patient history as required and assist in filling out necessary documentation.
Operating Imaging Equipment:
Operate and maintain radiologic equipment such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, or mammography machines, depending on your specific role and hospital needs.
Ensure the proper calibration and functioning of imaging equipment.
Follow strict protocols to ensure the correct radiation exposure levels for each procedure.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety regulations related to radiation exposure, ensuring patient and staff protection.
Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment.
Comply with hospital policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration with Healthcare Providers:
Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the accurate interpretation of images.
Assist radiologists in administering contrast agents or other necessary preparations.
Report any issues or irregularities with the imaging process or equipment to the supervisor.
Image Quality Assurance:
Ensure that high-quality images are captured by adjusting technical parameters as required.
Review images for clarity and make necessary adjustments before submission to the radiologist for interpretation.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient imaging data.
Ensure proper filing and retrieval of radiographic images in accordance with hospital protocols and privacy regulations.
Patient Care:
Provide compassionate patient care and support throughout the radiology procedures.
Monitor patient responses during imaging procedures, especially when administering contrast or sedation.
Continuous Improvement and Learning:
Stay updated with advances in radiological techniques and equipment.
Attend training sessions and workshops as required to enhance skills and maintain certifications.
