Job Description

Gastroenterologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders and diseases of the digestive

system, including the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, and esophagus. The role involves performing endoscopic procedures,

providing patient consultations, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver

comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts detailed patient history evaluations, physical examinations, and assess symptoms related to gastrointestinal issues.
  • Orders and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood tests, imaging (e.g., CT, MRI), and endoscopic procedures.
  • Diagnose a wide range of conditions including GERD, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis,

liver disease, and cancers of the gastrointestinal system.

  • Develops and implement individualized treatment plans, which may include medication, lifestyle changes, or surgical
  • interventions.
  • Performs endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and biopsies to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal issues.
  • Prescribes and monitor medications for gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Manages chronic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or cirrhosis, ensuring patient follow-up and ongoing care.
  • . Performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures with precision.
  • Performs assessment and screening of patients require Colonoscopy as part of Periodic Comprehensive Screening Program (IFHAS)
  • Manages complications and provides appropriate follow-up care.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in endoscopic technologies and techniques.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, oncologists, dietitians, and radiologists, to provide
  • comprehensive care.
  • Refers patients to other specialists when necessary.
  • Participates in case discussions and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Educates patients and their families about gastrointestinal diseases, preventive measures, treatment options, and healthy
  • lifestyle choices.
  • Stay informed of the latest research, advancements, and treatments in gastroenterology

Education

Medical degree from an accredited institution; specialization in Gastroenterology (board-certified/board-eligible).

Active DOH license as Consultant/Specialist Gastroenterologist or equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience as a Gastroenterologist in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity as necessary to complete procedures and patient examinations
  • Concentrate for extended lengths of time
  • Tolerate frequent interruptions and accommodate readily to changing work priorities.
  • Readily and effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good command in written and spoken English, Arabic
  • Presentable and pleasing personality
  • Proactive and approachable
  • Required physical activities to include standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, stretching, stooping and repetitive movements.
