We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Neonatologist to join the multidisciplinary medical team at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Ajman. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for newborn infants, including premature, critically ill, and medically complex neonates. The Consultant will be responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, and long-term management of neonatal conditions, working collaboratively with obstetricians, pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure the highest standards of neonatal care. The role includes providing care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), attending high-risk deliveries, supporting neonatal resuscitation, and contributing to quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, clinical education, and research in accordance with international best practices and organizational standards.
Responsibilities
Provide expert clinical care for newborn infants, including premature, critically ill, and high-risk neonates, in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines and organizational policies.
Diagnose, evaluate, and manage a broad spectrum of neonatal medical and surgical conditions requiring specialized care.
Lead the management of patients admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), ensuring timely assessment, treatment, and ongoing monitoring.
Attend high-risk deliveries and provide advanced neonatal resuscitation and stabilization in the delivery room.
Develop individualized management and discharge plans, ensuring continuity of care through appropriate follow-up and coordination with outpatient services.
Collaborate closely with obstetricians, pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, anesthesiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members to optimize neonatal outcomes.
Perform neonatal procedures within the scope of practice, including endotracheal intubation, umbilical vascular catheterization, lumbar puncture, chest tube insertion, exchange transfusion, and other advanced neonatal interventions.
Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and specialized diagnostic tests to guide clinical decision-making.
Provide consultation services for neonatal patients referred from emergency departments, inpatient units, and external healthcare facilities.
Counsel and educate parents and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, developmental outcomes, and discharge planning, ensuring compassionate and family-centered care.
Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, case discussions, morbidity and mortality meetings, and clinical governance activities.
Participate in the development, implementation, and review of clinical pathways, protocols, policies, and quality improvement initiatives related to neonatal care.
Ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, procedures, and clinical outcomes in the electronic medical record.
Promote patient safety by adhering to infection prevention and control measures, medication safety practices, and organizational risk management policies.
Participate in departmental audits, accreditation activities, research projects, and continuing medical education to support continuous quality improvement.
Participate in the on-call roster and provide emergency neonatal consultation and coverage as required.
Contribute to the education and training of healthcare professionals through teaching sessions, workshops, simulation training, and clinical supervision.
Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development and participation in relevant national and international educational activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Department in accordance with the scope of the Consultant Neonatologist role.
Qualifications
Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
Completion of recognized NICU residency and board certification.
Minimum 5 years of post-certification experience as a Consultant Neonatologist.
Licenses to practice (e.g., MOH, DHA, or relevant local authority).
