Job Summary

As a Zoological Specialist at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and outstanding functionality of the Zoological Department. This involves engaging in meaningful guest interactions, providing top-tier animal training, delivering meticulous husbandry care, creating enriching animal experiences, and conducting insightful research. You will work across diverse areas like Animal Ambassador, Aviculture, Dolphin, Dynamic Habitats/Aquarium, Sea Lion, and Zoo Support & Rescue. The role requires dynamic engagement across all shifts—early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays—to guarantee continuous exceptional performance. Your enthusiasm and expertise will contribute directly to creating unforgettable experiences while ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the animals.

Responsibilities

Daily Husbandry Tasks

• Conduct daily animal husbandry, including administration of vitamins, and medication while maintaining meticulous records to ensure optimal animal welfare and nutrition. Preserve safe, clean, and stimulating living conditions across all habitats, and continuously monitor for health and behavioral changes.
  
  

Behavioral Modification & Training

• Apply expert behavioral modification techniques to train animals, develop new behaviors for naïve specimens with minimal supervision, and independently train animals to completion. Establish and maintain conditioned behaviors while building trusting relationships with every animal in your designated area.
  
  

Animal & Guest Safety Monitoring

• Uphold stringent safety protocols by continually monitoring and assessing behavioral precursors that may pose risks to guests and colleague safety, intervening promptly and professionally.
  
  

Training & Development

• Facilitate professional growth through colleague training in accordance with leadership directives and ensure compliance with all mandated professional development courses and competency assessments.
  
  

Guest Services & Education

• Deliver superior guest experiences by engaging proactively in interactive sessions pre- and post-shows, addressing inquiries, and contributing to educational and public outreach programs.
  
  

Observation & Reporting

• Perform daily health observations and communicate any irregularities observed in animal behavior, health, or habitat conditions immediately to the leadership team.
  
  

Record & Area Maintenance

• Maintain comprehensive records of animal health, behavior, and habitat conditions while ensuring equipment, workspaces, and communication systems are up-to-date and functioning efficiently.
  
  

Ambassadorial Duties

• Serve as an ambassador for SeaWorld by maintaining outstanding customer service standards, fostering cooperation, and exhibiting dependability through consistent, constructive feedback and adaptability.
  
  

Policy Compliance & Safety

• Adher to all company policies, SOPs, and operational manuals, and practice safe work habits while ensuring personal protective equipment is utilized correctly and unsafe conditions are promptly reported.
  
  

Additional Responsibilities

• Execute any other duties as directed to meet the evolving needs of the business and department.
  
  

Qualifications

Essential

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Open Water SCUBA certification (not required for Aviculture roles)
• CPR/AED certification
• Minimum of 2 years of professional animal-handling experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Basic mathematical and computer proficiency, including MS Office and specialized animal recording systems
• Profound understanding of aquatic (fish, reptile, amphibian, invertebrate) husbandry, nutrition, and natural history
• Profound understanding of avian husbandry, incubation, and principles
• Comprehension of marine mammal husbandry and training principles
• Knowledge of marine mammal, avian, and reptilian husbandry/rescue rehabilitation practices
  
  

Desirable

• College background or formal education in Psychology, Zoology, or Biology
• Superior swimming and diving skills (particularly for Dynamic Habitat/Aquarium roles)
