Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced Work Packaging Lead (E&I) as part of our Construction team within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be initially office based and to be assigned to onshore site based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Objectives

  • Lead the formulation and implementation of the overall Construction / Implementation Plan, developing a work packaging/purchasing strategy and performing those activities needed select sub-contractors, construct the facility and pre-commission it for startup. Involved in every stage, from initiation through commissioning and startup of a project.
  • Lead constructability input to engineering teams by optimizing construction knowledge and experience to reduce construction costs; improve quality, safety and productivity; shorten construction schedules; and reduce or eliminate construction inefficiencies.
  • Responsible for assisting with the development of the PMP/PEP, bid submissions, construction methodology and strategies.
  • Provide construction technical support to the customer and the Wood engineering team, throughout the FEED and detailed design phases of a project, acting as a technical authority in the construction discipline.
  • Provide guidance to project controls in developing the build sequence/construction schedule and proactively risk managing of the schedule.
  • Provides input to the contracting strategy and during bid clarification process.
  • Act as team lead in the constructability team, overseeing conversion of engineering designs into construction workpacks and directing work of others.
  • Accountable for the delivery of construction deliverables to the required technical standards to support and facilitate site construction activities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain discipline-specific Electrical & Instrumentation Work Packages (IWPs, CWPs, PWPs) in alignment with the overall WorkFace Planning strategy.
  • Interface with engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and planning teams to ensure the timely and accurate development of work packages.
  • Break down E&I scope into constructible units with full consideration of safety, schedule, materials, tools, workforce, quality, and documentation.
  • Ensure all required documentation (e.g., IFC drawings, procedures, permits, ITPs, material take-offs) is included and complete.
  • Collaborate with construction leads, planners/schedulers, and field supervision to align package release with construction priorities and constraints.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination and resolve scope or sequencing conflicts proactively.
  • Track progress and closure of work packages and update systems accordingly (e.g., CMS, WFP software, project controls tools).
  • Support Field Engineering and Construction teams in the interpretation and implementation of work packages.
  • Monitor productivity trends and provide feedback for continuous improvement of the work packaging process.
  • Ensure all work complies with client specifications, codes, and safety regulations (e.g., CSA Z662, NEC, IEC, ATEX, etc.).
  • Participate in audits, readiness reviews, and lessons-learned exercises

Expected

  • Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering/Technology discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in oil and gas or heavy industrial projects, with at least 5 years in a Work Packaging or WorkFace Planning role.
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical and Instrumentation systems and their construction requirements.
  • Familiarity with EPCM work processes and construction execution planning.
  • Experience with WorkFace Planning principles (e.g., AWP – Advanced Work Packaging).
  • Proficient in project controls tools and document management systems (e.g., SmartPlant, Hexagon, P6, Aconex, etc.).\
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of applicable codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, IEC, CSA).

Preferred

  • Certification in WorkFace Planning or Advanced Work Packaging (e.g., COAA or CII training).
  • Construction or field supervision background in E&I.
  • Experience on large-scale modularized or brownfield/greenfield projects.
  • Knowledge of commissioning and turnover processes for E&I systems
