Job Description

A Supermarket Helper is a vital part of the retail team, assisting in the smooth operation of a supermarket. This role involves a blend of tasks that include stocking shelves, assisting customers, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the checkout process. A successful Supermarket Helper ensures that the shopping environment remains organized and welcoming for customers. The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with other team members and supervisors to deliver exceptional customer service, making the shopping experience enjoyable for all customers.


Responsibilities

  • Restock shelves promptly and efficiently, ensuring product visibility and accessibility.
  • Assist customers in locating products and provide product information when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of aisles and common areas in the supermarket.
  • Support the checkout process by bagging items and organizing carts for customer use.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report low-stock items to supervisors for reordering.
  • Facilitate smooth transactions by guiding customers to the nearest available cashier.
  • Participate in promotional displays setup and ensure merchandising standards are met.
  • Assist in unloading deliveries and organizing receiving areas for optimal workflow.
  • Ensure expiry dates are checked and older stock is rotated with newer stock.
  • Handle and resolve basic customer queries and escalate complex issues to management.
  • Participate actively in regular team meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards to ensure a secure environment for customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification is required for this role.
  • Experience in retail or customer service roles is preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team and customers.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting and standing for long periods.
  • Basic math skills are necessary for handling transactions and stock counting.
  • Positive attitude, proactive approach, and willingness to learn on the job.
