The Aquarium Submersible Operator is responsible in delivering an excellent guests experience by maintaining the professional appearance and cleanliness of the submersible. Also, ensuring the health and safety of animals, which can include animal behavior observational skills and an induction into the Endless Ocean ecosystem, along with guests and colleagues while operating the vessel. This trained individual is responsible for the operation of the vessel at all times.
This position requires working in confined spaces, in and under the water with members of the public. This position also requires working in varying shifts based on business needs. This includes opening, mid, and closing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Exhibit a stable and mature personality, instilling confidence in guests/observers throughout the marine experience. Should have an ongoing desire to learn, broaden and convey their knowledge among coworkers to ensure a smooth-running team operation. Have a strong sense of personal initiative, responsibility, and attention to detail but possess natural curiosity and good humor to make for outstanding guest experiences.
The Job Scope includes:
Maintains cleanliness, integrity of the submersible and its operating equipment.
Ensures that all submersible operations safety measures are always followed.
Ability to follow detailed safety and operational checklists as instructed.
Safely operates submersible through designated route and speed.
Manage submersible in a single pilot environment including life support, submersible operations, and guest interaction.
Monitors and assists loading / unloading of guests, briefing, and ensuring safety protocols are adhered to.
Maintains a high standard on submersible and equipment on board including O2 systems, fire extinguishers, life support systems.
Reads gauges to verify sufficient level of life support parameters including air pressure and oxygen
Performs other duties assigned by the leadership.
Maintains records of daily activities, opening / closing check lists, reports, and logs.
Familiarity with Endless Ocean ecosystem and proper animal safe activities with marine vessel
Accurate reporting of animal observation seen during submersible operations.
Proactively engage and motivate guests about the experience and animal life at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi through interaction, education, and answering questions and resolving concerns with a positive demeaner.
Always maintains rescue skill competency and basic life support skill competency at “test ready” levels
Completes the accurate daily logs and records
Ensures that all submersible equipment and materials are ready prior to park operations and safely stored after park’s closing
Reports to the leadership the status of inventory that is used for marine vessel operations
Maintains professional development on all OSHMS (Occupational Safety and Health Management System) regulations
Completes all training that are required by the department and facilities
Utilizes safe handling, storage and disposal practices for toxic substances and hazardous waste in accordance with company policies.
Participate in emergency exercises.
Support other aquarium programs as needed and trained.
Performs other duties assigned by the leadership.
To be considered for the role, you will need to have:
Job Essentials:
High School Diploma or equivalent
SCUBA Diver Certified
Oxygen handling certification (or ability to obtain)
Rigging, lifting certification (or ability to obtain)
CPR and First Aid certified and Oxygen Provider (or ability to obtain)
2-years’ scuba diving experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
English communication skills, written/verbal
Excellent diving and in-water rescue skills
Basic mathematical skills
Demonstratable oratory ability in groups of up to five people
Ability to Lift/move up to 45 kgs without accommodation
Passing of physical and medical fitness test in line with industry standards including free of any cardiopulmonary disease, disorder or damage to the lungs such as extensive scarring, asthma, TB, fibrosis, etc.
Free of Claustrophobia
Able to swim 200 meters nonstop and tread water for 15-minutes
Job Desirables:
SCUBA Rescue Diver or equivalent
Marine animal husbandry experience
UAE Issued Driver’s License
Marine Driving License
2 years’ experience in a Theme Park or leisure venue.
Multiple recorded open water dives within the last 2 years
2 years’ experience of operating a marine vehicle or light aircraft
Basic computer knowledge including MS Office
Basic verbal Arabic communication skills
Knowledge of elasmobranch, teleost, and invertebrate biology
CPR and First Aid certified and Oxygen Provider (or ability to obtain)
