Job Description

As a Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will play a critical role in providing first-line patient care in fast-paced and high-pressure situations. Your primary responsibility is to assess patients, make quick and accurate decisions, and provide emergency care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. You will need to quickly build rapport with patients, manage their immediate health needs, and provide emotional support to patients and their family members during potentially traumatic situations. Your role is essential in maintaining the quality and efficiency of the emergency department, and you must stay calm under pressure while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and the highest standards of clinical care. Your ability to respond swiftly to emergencies, communicate effectively, and display a strong sense of empathy and professionalism will be crucial in ensuring that patients receive the best care possible.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial patient assessments and triage based on clinical urgency and needs.
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Provide effective patient care in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and report significant changes to the attending physician promptly.
  • Document patient information, vital signs, and clinical observations accurately and thoroughly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment complying with health and safety regulations.
  • Educate patients and their families on ongoing care and postoperative instructions.
  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide rapid response to emergencies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.
  • Ensure effective inventory management of medical supplies and emergency medications.
  • Support the emotional and psychological needs of patients during high-stress situations.
  • Respond to hospital code blues and other emergency situations as required.

Requirements

  • A valid nursing license and registration with the state nursing board is required.
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience in an emergency department setting.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Proficient knowledge of emergency medical procedures and hospital equipment use.
