The Sustainability & Automation Assistant supports the development, implementation and monitoring of sustainability initiatives and environmental programs as well as the implementation, testing and maintenance of automation systems and processes within the department. This role involves technical and administrative assistance, research and coordination duties to help advance the department’s sustainability goals and efficient operation of automated workflows and software tools.
Key Responsibilities
Sustainability
Assist in executing and tracking sustainability projects and initiatives.
Collect, analyze and report data related to energy use, water consumption, waste management and other environmental metrics.
Support the preparation of sustainability reports, presentations and communications.
Conduct research on best practices, innovations and regulatory updates in sustainability.
Assist in organizing workshops, awareness campaigns and training sessions related to sustainability and environmental practices.
Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to support green initiatives.
Maintain records of sustainability initiatives including documentation for compliance and audits.
Help track and ensure adherence to sustainability certifications and standards (e.g., ISO 14001, LEED, etc.).
Sustainability System Integration
Assist in developing, configuring and testing automation processes and workflows.
Support the setup and monitoring of automated processes.
Perform data collection, documentation and reporting for automation performance and improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with ERP, BMS Team or any related department to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Help maintain records of automation projects, maintenance logs and updates to system configurations.
Participate in pilot testing, process validation and quality assurance checks for automated solutions.
Provide administrative support such as scheduling maintenance, ordering components or managing software licenses related to automation tools.
Keep updated on industry trends, tools and technologies relevant to automation.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
Strong interest and knowledge in sustainability, environmental issues and climate action.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint); familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus.
Basic knowledge of automation tools or scripting languages (e.g., Power Apps, Power Automate, etc.).
Familiarity with automation software (e.g., AutoCAD, BMS) is a plus.
Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn new systems and tools.
Excellent organizational, communication and research skills
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in sustainability and automation roles.
Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, CDP) or environmental management systems.
Familiarity with carbon footprint analysis or life cycle assessment (LCA) is a plus.
Hands-on experience (internships, projects, or coursework) with automation systems or BMS.
Familiarity with safety protocols related to working environments.
Experience with data visualization or workflow tools.
