Job Description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a critical role in the construction and infrastructure sectors, providing expert cost management while ensuring projects remain financially viable. They are responsible for managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to the final figures. Senior Quantity Surveyors minimize the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. They work closely with clients, contractors, and construction teams, ensuring budgetary control and overall project success. This role demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and comprehensive knowledge of construction processes and contracts. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be pivotal in successfully steering complex projects to completion within financial and time limits.


Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive cost control and cost management for complex construction projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to determine project specifications.
  • Prepare and analyze project costings, budgets, and procurement strategies effectively.
  • Negotiate and manage supplier and subcontractor contracts to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee and evaluate tenders, ensuring cost-effective and efficient solutions.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to estimate materials, time, and labor costs thoroughly.
  • Monitor construction progress to ensure projects are completed within budget.
  • Prepare detailed reports for clients and management on cost forecasting and budgeting.
  • Evaluate potential risks, contingencies, and develop mitigation strategies for projects.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and building codes rigorously.
  • Mentor and train junior quantity surveyors to foster professional growth in the team.
  • Liaise with clients to secure approvals and process invoices for payments accurately.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of proven experience in quantity surveying or cost management.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, methods, and project management principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Proficient in relevant software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, and cost estimating tools.
  • Professional membership with RICS or equivalent professional body is preferred.
