Job Purpose

The Senior P&C Engineer is responsible for execution of works related to Electrical Protection System, Fault Monitoring, Power Quality Monitoring, Metering & SCMS.

Duties & Responsibilities

Field Work:

Relay Testing

  • Parameterization and testing of numerical Protection relays for High and extra high voltage substation.
  • Protection Relays Component testing / final settings Implementation, End to End test, Cable differential Stability test, Bus Bar Primary stability test.
  • Review of final settings received from end user.
  • Prepare OCC files, test plans for Numerical relay test kits using Omicron-Test Universe.

Technical Support

  • Able to understand Basic Design Document, Protection Logic Diagram, Protection trip matrix and protection/SCMS block diagrams, Protection schematic diagram.
  • Prepare method statement and site acceptance test procedure.
  • Review of detailed design document, like Protection schematic diagram, signal list, Relay settings etc.
  • Prepare Relay Set Files, CID Files etc.

Research & Development

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in transmission and distribution technologies and sustainable energy solutions.
  • Contribute to R&D efforts in grid optimization, energy storage integration, and renewable energy solutions.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with project consultant owner engineer for finalization of design and engineering.
  • Collaborate with site owner engineers at site to carry out site acceptance witness test.

Reporting

  • Prepare weekly site works reporting the progress to the Project Manager and Group P&C Manager for Site Testing and Commissioning works.
  • Prepare FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) reports, and SAT (Site acceptance test) reports.
  • Prepare commissioning check lists and handovers.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience as a Protection Testing Engineer from the energy & power industry in the GCC/UAE.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering/commissioning software of different manufacturers.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Familiar with Technical specification, requirement and practice related to EHV/HV/MV electrical protection system, SCMS and Cyber security system of different utility i.e. TRANSCO, DEWA, EWE etc.
  • Familiar with IEC standards applicable for Substation Electrical Protection system and SCMS.
  • Familiar with different Protection Relays, Control units application.
  • Able to understand the Design, Engineering and calculation documents related to Electrical Protection and SCMS.
  • Familiar in sub-station automation data communication Protocols, IEC61850, IEC 60870-101, and IEC 60870-104 is preferable.
  • Having hands-on experience with the following would be an advantage:
  • OMICRON TEST UNIVERSE variants.
  • CIRCUIT BREAKER ANALYZER.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to present complex, technical information to a wide audience.
  • High competence in technical writing, systems development and utilization.
