Since its inception in 2010, National Reference Laboratory (NRL) has expanded from a single standalone reference laboratory to a network of 12 state-of-the-art facilities across the United Arab Emirates. NRL provides world-class diagnostic services to the M42 network and partners with more than 250 clients from a wide range of market segments, including private and government hospitals, medical centers and clinics, corporate organizations, and other reference laboratories.

As a Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist - Anatomical Pathology, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic laboratory services by performing and overseeing complex histopathology procedures. You will ensure excellence in specimen processing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance while supporting continuous improvement, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with pathologists to provide accurate and timely patient diagnoses.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee complex histopathology procedures, including specimen grossing, tissue processing, microtomy, cryotomy, and staining.
  • Ensure accurate specimen management, tracking, and adherence to chain of custody and quality protocols.
  • Perform, validate, and monitor H&E, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) while maintaining high-quality laboratory standards.
  • Conduct quality control activities, investigate non-conformities, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Supervise the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and manage reagent and consumable inventory.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to junior laboratory technologists and support staff.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, accurate diagnostic results and efficient workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 15189, CAP, JCI, EIAC, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or a related discipline.
  • Current professional licensure/registration as required by the relevant regulatory authority (e.g., DOH, DHA, or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in Anatomical Pathology/Histopathology, including grossing, tissue processing, microtomy, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality management systems, quality control, and accreditation standards (ISO 15189, CAP, JCI, EIAC).
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving skills in a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
