Senior Medical Coder

The Senior Medical Coder is a pivotal role within our healthcare organization, responsible for translating intricate medical documentation into universally recognized codes that form the basis of the billing systems. As a Senior Medical Coder, you will utilize your advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to ensure the accuracy and completeness of coding as you work closely with healthcare providers. Your role will also involve ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, thereby influencing the financial health of the practice. This position requires exceptional attention to detail and a deep understanding of the current coding systems, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS. You will also assume a leading role in mentoring less experienced coders and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the coding department.

Responsibilities

• Review and accurately code complex medical documents utilizing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Ensure all medical coding aligns with established guidelines and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct coding audits to enhance the accuracy and quality of coding practices.

• Provide expert guidance and support to junior coders, enhancing team productivity and confidence.

• Develop and deliver training materials to facilitate ongoing coder education and skills development.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on coding activities, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
• Address coding-related inquiries from insurance providers regarding claims submissions.
• Participate in departmental meetings, contributing insights from a coding perspective to strategic discussions.
• Identify and implement strategies to streamline coding processes and improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Act as a point of contact for escalated coding issues that require advanced resolution techniques.

Requirements

• Certification in medical coding by recognized bodies like AAPC or AHIMA.
• Minimum of three years' experience in a medical coding capacity within healthcare settings.
• Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines and practices.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
