About the Job:

The jobholder is responsible for developing, designing, updating, and advising on the Energy Management System and practices to support energy performance for ocean-going vessels. This includes ensuring compliance with national and international maritime regulations, ADNOC Energy Management System guidelines, and best practices. The role involves improving the fleet’s energy efficiency by aligning company operating principles with maritime regulations and international standards. Additionally, the jobholder will monitor and analyze the energy use of vessels using data logging, manage a system for KPI monitoring of fleet performance, and provide advanced technical and analytical expertise in energy optimization and management. This includes implementing energy-saving measures, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, leading technical assessments, managing energy optimization projects, monitoring regulatory compliance, and supporting innovation and training within the department. The jobholder will also lead energy certifications for ADNOC’s L&S Fleets globally.

• Analyze and report on hull and propeller performance using data from automated logging units or daily noon reports.
• Monitor and report non-propulsion energy use and auxiliary boiler operations, ensuring accurate energy consumption tracking.
• Prepare and publish daily and monthly energy performance reports, analyzing performance across all significant energy-using assets and equipment.
• Identify areas for operational improvement and follow up to ensure adherence to best energy practices.
• Oversee energy efficiency improvement projects, ensuring timely benefits and actions.
• Develop and maintain the Energy Management System to comply with international certification standards.
• Advise on energy management for updates and new projects to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Conduct energy audits and implement technical improvements and retrofitting activities.
• Provide technical expertise to align with company strategy, ensuring compliance with energy efficiency regulations.
• Oversee the monitoring, reporting, and analysis of fleet energy efficiency performance.
• Evaluate and address major energy consumption discrepancies, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, classification societies, and industry stakeholders to ensure alignment with current standards.
• Represent the company in forums and meetings, fostering relationships with technology providers and consultants for continuous improvement.
• Perform technical assessments to identify energy-saving opportunities, using advanced tools for data analysis.
• Provide insights to improve efficiency based on industry benchmarks and fleet performance analysis.
• Develop and manage energy optimization projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
• Act as a liaison between departments, ensuring technical requirements are understood and met.
• Monitor resource utilization to optimize project efficiency.
• Develop specifications and implement monitoring systems to track energy optimization performance.
• Ensure system reliability through regular maintenance and updates.
• Monitor compliance with international and local energy regulations (e.g., IMO, EU MRV, ECA).
• Conduct compliance audits and adapt processes as necessary to maintain standards.
• Prepare detailed technical and compliance reports, maintaining records of all relevant activities.
• Research and implement new energy efficiency technologies, staying informed about industry trends.
• Lead initiatives to test and evaluate the feasibility of innovative solutions, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
• Develop and deliver training programs on energy management practices to enhance team skills and knowledge.
• Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
• Promote knowledge sharing within the team to foster a collaborative learning environment
• Support ad-hoc energy management tasks as directed or delegated by the Team Leader, such as conducting feasibility studies, liaising with stakeholders, or troubleshooting issues.
  
  

• Bachelor’s Degree: Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Preferred: Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s) in a relevant discipline such as Marine Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
• Relevant Shipping Operations practices and optimization.
• Developing energy balances and energy efficiency calculations for various types of processes, ships, and fuels.
• Energy Management Systems and understanding of applicable requirements and standards.
• Familiarity with energy-efficient technologies.
• Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
• Advanced skills in Power PI and Microsoft Excel for energy performance monitoring, analyses, and verification.
• Minimum Experience: 5 years in energy management, with significant technical experience in the maritime industry. Proven experience in managing energy optimization projects and conducting technical assessments.
• Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in conducting technical assessments and managing complex energy optimization projects. Experience with energy technologies and energy efficiency measures, Experience in using advanced analytics and machine learning for energy optimization.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge of energy systems, renewable energy technologies, and energy efficiency measures. Expertise in using energy management software and tools.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct technical assessments and feasibility studies. Ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights.
• Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Effective presentation skills and the ability to write detailed technical reports.
• Proficiency: Proficiency in energy management software and tools. Familiarity with data analytics and project management tools.
  
  

• Preferred: Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or similar certification, ISO 50001 Lead Auditor Certification.
