The Project

This portfolio comprises projects either directly managed by the client team or delivered by leading third-party developers under the client’s leadership. It includes a diverse range of projects, spanning new construction, master planning schemes, and executive fit-out works.

The senior design manager (interior design) will be integrated seconded from Mace into the client office, operating at the project portfolio level to represent the client’s interests while drawing upon Mace’s consultancy expertise. The role is responsible for leading the delivery of interior design packages across assigned projects, ensuring design quality, compliance, constructability, and alignment with the client’s strategic objectives.

Acting as a trusted advisor, the role will interface closely with internal client stakeholders, external consultants, and delivery teams to ensure design outcomes support programme goals, budget, schedule, and operational requirements.

You’ll Be Responsible For

• Support portfolio-wide design management, ensuring alignment with the clients design vision, quality benchmarks, and governance processes.
• Coordinate architectural, engineering, planning, and specialist disciplines to ensure cohesive and integrated design solutions.
• Review and challenge design submissions at all stages, ensuring functionality, aesthetics, statutory compliance, and buildability.
• Monitor design progress, highlight risks, and escalate issues requiring senior intervention.
• Work with the client to manage interfaces between projects, developers, authorities, and external stakeholders.
• Ensure design deliverables align with programme, cost, procurement, and construction requirements.
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of design management systems, statutory approval processes, and industry best practices.
• Lead design workshops, technical reviews, and coordination sessions across the portfolio.
• Support the implementation and continual improvement of design management systems, tools, and processes.
• Support and contribute to design assurance reporting, KPI tracking, and portfolio governance reviews.
• Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative working environment.
• Act as a key interface with consultants, contractors, and client-side representatives, maintaining strong and effective relationships.
  
  

You’ll Need To Have

• Strong experience operating as a senior design manager or equivalent on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Proven background working on the client side, in PMC, in consultancy, or in government environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and support strategic decision-making.
• Experience working on high-profile projects and with senior client stakeholders.
