Danat Al Emarat is a world-class specialty women’s and children’s hospital in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It offers advanced medical services across specialties including Neonatology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Women’s Health. The hospital is one of the very few to encompass a dedicated Fetal Medicine Department along with a full-fledged Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the UAE. This has established Danat Al Emarat as a regional referral center for women with high-risk pregnancies, supported by its Level III NICU providing care for the most fragile newborns.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized department dedicated to providing advanced, compassionate care to premature, critically ill, and medically fragile newborn infants. The multidisciplinary NICU team, including neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals, works collaboratively to deliver comprehensive care, continuous monitoring, and specialized treatments to support the growth, development, and recovery of neonates. The unit is committed to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety while promoting family-centered care and supporting parents throughout their newborn's hospitalization journey.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing care to premature, critically ill, and high-risk newborns in the NICU.
  • Continuously assess, monitor, and document neonatal health status, vital signs, and responses to treatment.
  • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and nutritional support as prescribed.
  • Operate and monitor specialized neonatal equipment, including incubators, ventilators, CPAP, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitors.
  • Assist neonatologists and other healthcare providers during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in a newborn's condition and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Support infection prevention and control practices to ensure a safe environment for neonates.
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement care plans.
  • Promote and support breastfeeding, maternal bonding, and family-centered care.
  • Educate parents and caregivers regarding infant care, feeding, medications, and discharge planning.
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to families during neonatal hospitalization.
  • Ensure safe handling, transport, and positioning of neonates.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and continuing professional development activities.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • DOH/DHA/MOH license
