Job Description
We are looking for a seasoned Resident Engineer with extensive experience in underground utilities infrastructure to oversee a critical project in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of engineering experience, including at least 6 years working in the UAE. This is a 6-month contract assignment, with potential for re-assignment to other projects after successful completion, though no guarantees can be made. The Resident Engineer will be responsible for managing all on-site activities related to underground utilities installation, ensuring the project is completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
Project Oversight: Lead the on-site operations for the underground utilities infrastructure project, ensuring work is executed in line with contractual specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership: Supervise and guide site engineers, subcontractors, and laborers, providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with design documents.
Quality Assurance: Monitor construction work for adherence to quality standards, conducting regular inspections to ensure materials, installation, and workmanship meet required specifications.
Site Management: Oversee daily site activities, ensuring construction progress aligns with the project schedule, and address any delays or technical issues promptly.
Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, contractors, and consultants. Facilitate communication between all parties to resolve technical issues, changes, and progress updates.
Reporting: Maintain and submit regular progress reports, highlighting milestones, challenges, risks, and mitigation actions.
Risk and Issue Management: Identify potential risks and challenges, implementing solutions to mitigate delays or safety concerns.
Compliance: Ensure all work complies with local regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines specific to underground utilities projects.
Procurement Support: Assist with managing material delivery, ensuring timely availability of resources while maintaining quality control.
Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records, including as-built drawings, change orders, and daily logs of activities.
Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
Certification: PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is mandatory.
Experience:
More than 12 years of professional engineering experience.
At least 6 years of experience working in the UAE, specifically on underground utilities infrastructure projects (e.g., drainage, sewerage, water networks, electrical utilities).
Technical Expertise: Solid experience in managing underground utilities projects, including knowledge of trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, and safety protocols.
Project Management Skills: Proficiency in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources, with a strong ability to resolve conflicts and manage site personnel.
Software Proficiency: Experience using project management software such as MS Project, Primavera, and other related tools.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead a team, make decisions under pressure, and communicate effectively with all project stakeholders.
Language Skills: Fluency in English is required. Arabic language skills are a plus.
Knowledge of UAE Regulations: In-depth understanding of UAE construction regulations, specifically for underground utilities projects.
