Job Description

The United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant (RA) position to support a funded project on reimagining data visualisations for Arab audiences. The project investigates how cultural and linguistic factors influence the design and interpretation of data visualisations. The RA will work closely with the Principal Investigator and any potential researchers to design and conduct user studies, develop web-based visualisation prototypes, collect and analyse data, and contribute to academic publications. This position offers an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in pursuing graduate studies or research careers in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), data visualisation, or UX design. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct online user studies and co-design sessions.
  • Develop interactive data visualisations and experimental web interfaces.
  • Collect, clean, and analyse qualitative and quantitative data using statistical software.
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesise prior research.
  • Document research progress and maintain project records.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and draft research papers for publication.
  • Coordinate logistics for participant recruitment, study scheduling, and data management.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human–Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Basic understanding of statistics and research methods.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualification

  • Prior experience conducting user studies or human-subject experiments.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools or libraries (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js, Highcharts, Tableau, Flourish).
  • Experience developing interactive web applications (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python/Flask, or Node.js).
  • Demonstrated experience in academic research (e.g., literature reviews, paper writing, data analysis).
  • Arabic language proficiency, given the cultural and linguistic focus of the project.

Expected Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using statistical and visualization software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, Excel).
