Job Description
The Electrical Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a Research Assistant in the area of electromagnetic sensing, microwave engineering, and dielectric material characterization. The successful candidate will contribute to a funded research project focused on the development of a novel dielectric probe for electromagnetic characterization of liquid and semi-liquid materials. The Research Assistant will be expected to support the following activities:
Electromagnetic simulation and optimization using CST Microwave Studio, HFSS, or related software
Design and analysis of microwave and RF sensing structures
Development and testing of dielectric probe prototypes
Microwave measurements using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) systems
Calibration and characterization of selected liquid and semi-liquid materials
Data collection, signal processing, and experimental analysis
Assistance in software/tool development for material characterization and calibration
Preparation of technical reports, conference papers, and journal publications
Laboratory setup, prototype fabrication, and validation activities The candidate should have experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio, HFSS, or COMSOL Multiphysics. Experience in microwave measurements, RF systems, signal processing, or scientific programming is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualification
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field,
Strong background in electromagnetics and microwave engineering
Experience using CST Microwave Studio, HFSS, COMSOL, or related EM simulation software
Knowledge of RF/microwave measurements and Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) systems
Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or similar platforms
Good technical writing and communication skills
Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary research environment
Preferred Qualification
Experience in dielectric material characterization and sensor development
Knowledge of metamaterials and microwave sensing applications
Hands-on laboratory experience in RF and microwave systems
Experience in PCB-based RF design and prototyping
Publications, thesis work, or research experience related to electromagnetics, microwave engineering, sensors, RF systems, metamaterials, or dielectric characterization is preferred
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
