Job Description

A Radiographer, also known as a Radiologic Technologist or Radiologic Technologist, is a healthcare professional responsible for performing diagnostic imaging examinations using X-rays and other imaging technologies. They play a crucial role in the medical field by assisting doctors in diagnosing and treating health problems. The Radiographer operates sophisticated imaging equipment and ensures patient comfort and safety while capturing the necessary images. With a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and patient care, Radiographers contribute significantly to the healthcare team, facilitating accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. They must adhere to strict safety and procedural protocols to protect both patients and themselves from radiation exposure.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedures by explaining the process and easing comfort.
  • Operate imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and maintain their functionality.
  • Accurately position patients to capture images according to the physician's requests.
  • Ensure the quality and clarity of images before submission to radiologists for review.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to minimize exposure to radiation for patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and manage imaging results for physician analysis.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to verify imaging requisitions align with examination needs.
  • Monitor equipment performance and promptly report any malfunctions or concerns.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA and institutional regulations.
  • Assist with patient transfers and movements to and from imaging tables safely.
  • Provide post-examination care and instructions tailored to each patient's needs.
  • Ensure examination rooms are clean, organized, and ready for subsequent procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in radiologic technology or related field from accredited program.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • License to practice as a Radiographic Technologist.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow physicians' instructions.
  • Basic understanding of patient care and excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with healthcare safety regulations and radiation protection standards.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot advanced imaging equipment and related software.
