Job Description

The role of a Quantity Surveyor is integral to the financial and contractual management of construction projects. Working closely with engineers, architects, and contractors, a Quantity Surveyor oversees project budgets, ensures project specifications are adhered to, and optimizes resources. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and an understanding of construction methods, contracts, and regulations. This position requires one to be detail-oriented and possess excellent negotiation skills in order to oversee the revenue and expenditure of a construction project effectively. Successful Quantity Surveyors perform comprehensive project evaluations and provide precise estimates that help guide projects from inception to completion while ensuring profitability and efficiency.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage project budgets and cost estimates for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct detailed measurements and evaluations of construction work and project proposals.
  • Assess, negotiate, and authorize contract variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Analyze and assess project risks to recommend cost-effective mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular financial updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, conditions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Source and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for best value.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure optimal resource allocation and utilization.
  • Create and present detailed project reports to support decision-making processes.
  • Advise on and control project costs throughout the pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of project contracts, communications, and changes.
  • Coordinate with legal teams for dispute resolution and contract management issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a similar construction environment.
  • Strong familiarity with construction contracts, regulations, and health and safety standards.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical skills for precise data interpretation and reporting.
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, MS Excel, and Quantity Surveying software.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
