Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor is a crucial figure in the construction and engineering sectors, responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. This individual ensures that structures are completed within budget and on time, with an eye on cost control and financial management to achieve maximum project profitability. The position requires a blend of technical knowledge, strategic insight, and practical understanding of industry practices. Quantity Surveyors are key to preventing unnecessary costs, delivering on project specifications, and optimizing resource allocation. Working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, they play an integral role in the planning and execution stages, ensuring that the project’s financial considerations align with its physical progress.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for construction projects.
  • Manage and monitor construction project expenditures to maintain budgetary constraints.
  • Negotiate contracts with contractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure best value.
  • Conduct risk analysis and value management to minimize project financial risks.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and disputes to protect company interests.
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to ensure cost-effective project solutions.
  • Accurately measure and value completed work for payment authorization.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
  • Evaluate contractor submissions for compliance with project specifications.
  • Maintain awareness of different building contracts in current use for compliance.
  • Develop and present regular project financial reports to management teams.
  • Assess and document project progress to maintain alignment with the budget forecast.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in a Quantity Surveyor role in construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods and material pricing trends.
  • Proficient in using industry-specific software and financial analysis tools.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, laws, and construction management practices.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for diverse stakeholder interaction.
