Job Description

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. Your expertise in quantity surveying will be vital in ensuring that project costs are managed and monitored through to completion. You will prepare, negotiate, and analyze costs for tenders and contracts, ensuring projects are completed within budget and to the required quality standards. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors, using your strong analytical skills and attention to detail to provide cost-effective solutions that meet the project specifications. This dynamic role requires both strong mathematical skills and excellent communication abilities, as you will often liaise with a variety of stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain estimates, budgets, and cost plans for construction projects.
  • Analyze project specifications and undertake detailed take-offs and pricing of the work.
  • Manage procurement of construction materials and negotiation of contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project costs to ensure work is within budget and forecast accurately.
  • Assess completed works to ensure accurate and consistent valuations and timely payment of invoices.
  • Prepare and issue tenders, conducting accurate and comprehensive bid evaluations.
  • Collaborate with project managers to forecast project completion costs and prepare financial reports.
  • Negotiate and resolve any contractual issues with clients and stakeholders effectively.
  • Prepare and interpret cost reports for management review and decision-making.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant legal regulations and standards in quantity surveying.
  • Conduct risk analysis of proposed projects and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity surveying or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating and financial management software, such as CostX or similar.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • In-depth understanding of construction contracts, subcontracts, and legal compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional membership, such as RICS, would be advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
