Job Description

The Computer and Network Engineering Department, College of IT, at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our team focused an advanced AI research project focused on next-generation intelligent systems using Deep Learning, Vision-Language Models (VLMs), Large Language Models (LLMs), multimodal learning, and evolutionary optimization techniques. The project involves designing scalable AI frameworks for visual understanding, reasoning, automated report generation, decision support, and adaptive learning from multimodal data. Selected candidates will work on cutting-edge AI methodologies involving computer vision, multimodal transformers, generative AI, reinforcement learning, optimization algorithms, and explainable AI. The role includes model development, experimentation, research publication, and deployment-oriented AI system design. Responsibilities:

• Designing and training deep learning and multimodal AI models
• Developing Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and LLM-integrated AI pipelines
• Implementing transformer-based architectures for visual and textual understanding
• Working with multimodal datasets including images, temporal data, and structured information
• Applying evolutionary algorithms and optimization strategies for intelligent model adaptation
• Conducting performance evaluation, ablation studies, and benchmarking
• Developing explainable and interpretable AI solutions
• Collaborating on research publications in leading AI conferences and journals
• Assisting in prototype deployment and scalable AI system integration
  
  

Minimum Qualification

A PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong knowledge of Deep Learning and Neural Networks
• Experience with transformer architectures and attention mechanisms
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Experience with Computer Vision and multimodal AI systems
• Good scientific writing and communication skills
  
  

Preferred Qualification

• Publications in Top AI-related journals or conferences
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs)
  
  

Expected Skills

• Experience with Vision Transformers (ViTs), CLIP, BLIP, LLaVA, GPT-based systems, or similar architectures
• Experience with parameter-efficient fine-tuning methods (LoRA, QLoRA, adapters, RLHF)
