Job Description

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering and AI applications. The successful candidate will support research on AI-driven modeling and digital twin frameworks for geotechnical infrastructure in arid and saline environments. Applicants should have experience in geotechnical data analysis, numerical modeling (e.g., PLAXIS), and programming (Python or similar). Familiarity with machine learning or data-driven modeling is desirable. Candidates must hold a master’s degree in civil engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. Prior experience in both geotechnical engineering and computational/data-driven methods is preferred.

Minimum Qualification

An appropriate educational degree (PhD in Civil Engineering – Geotechnical or a closely related field) supplemented with documented evidence to support the following:

• Strong background in geotechnical engineering and numerical modeling (e.g., PLAXIS or similar tools)
• Experience in data analysis, programming (Python or similar), and machine learning techniques
• Ability to develop and implement data-driven or physics-informed models
• Good technical writing and scientific reporting skills
• Flexible, proactive approach with the ability to work independently and within a research team
  
  

• Familiarity with AI, machine learning, or data-driven modeling approaches in engineering applications
• Demonstrated ability to support computational research activities
• Adaptable and flexible to evolving research needs and project requirements
• Strong teamwork skills with a commitment to maintaining a safe and professional research environment
• Experience in experimental modelling is a plus.
