The Planning Engineer is responsible for assisting in development and leading in monitoring, and control of project schedules to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality delivery of projects.
The role provides expert planning, forecasting, and risk analysis to support strategic decision-making and contractual compliance.
In addition, the role mentors junior planning staff and contributes to the continuous improvement of planning processes, tools, and methodologies, supporting the organization’s overall performance and long-term growth.

Roles, Responsibilities & Duties
Project Planning & Scheduling
Assist Sr. Planners in baseline development
Develop work breakdown structures (WBS), activity logic, calendars, and durations.
Prepare look-ahead schedules (2–4 weeks) aligned with site execution
Update programmes based on actual site progress
Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting
Collect progress data from:
Site engineers
Construction managers
Subcontractors
Measure and update:
Physical progress (% complete)
Critical path activities
Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
Prepare progress dashboards, S-curves, and histograms
Coordination & Site Support
Coordinate with:
Construction team
Engineering team
Procurement team
Support sequencing and construction methodology planning.
Identify schedule slippages and notify senior staff.
Programme Control & Documentation
Maintain:
Planning logs
Schedule narratives
Progress backup documents
Ensure consistency between programme, reports, and site status.
Archive planning submissions and approvals
Meetings & communication:
Attend internal coordination meetings.
Support senior planner in:
Client / consultant meetings
Progress discussions
Issue planning inputs for MOMs when required.
Compliance & best Practice:
Follow project contract requirements related to programme submissions.
Ensure planning deliverables complies with:
Contract conditions
Consultant requirements
Client formats and timelines
Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Professional certifications such as PMI-SP, PSP, or PMP are highly desirable.
Additional training in project controls, risk management, or contract administration is an advantage.
Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, and MS Office Suite.
Experience & Skills
Industry Experience (No. of years):
Minimum 4–6 years of progressive experience in project planning and scheduling within the construction, infrastructure, facilities management, or engineering sectors.
Demonstrated track record of managing schedules on large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects with complex timelines, resource demands, and contractual requirements.
Position/functional Experience (No. Of Years)
At least 3–5 years in planning role, with hands-on expertise in baseline development, resource loading, critical path analysis, risk management, and claims/delay analysis. Proven ability to mentor junior engineers.
Competencies And Skills
Planning & Scheduling:
Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, and MS Office Suite with strong expertise in baseline development, critical path, and resource management.
Project Controls & Risk:
Skilled in cost–schedule integration, earned value management, delay/claims analysis, and risk mitigation strategies.
Contractual Knowledge:
Familiar with FIDIC standards, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.
Reporting & Analysis:
Strong ability to prepare executive dashboards, performance reports, and KPI-driven insights.
Leadership & Mentorship:
Experienced in guiding junior staff, leading cross-functional teams, and promoting collaboration.
Communication & Influence:
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
Adaptability & Integrity:
Resilient under pressure, adaptable to changing demands, and committed to professional ethics and accountability.
