Role Purpose
- Execute piping engineering and design deliverables for assigned areas/packages in accordance with project specifications, scope, design parameters, codes and industry practices.
- Provide strong hands-on piping design capability, with preference for candidates who can also contribute to piping stress analysis and piping materials/procurement support activities.
- Work effectively within a multi-discipline project team to deliver safe, accurate, timely and constructible outputs, supporting reviews, vendor interfaces and construction queries when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Piping Engineering & Design Delivery (Primary)
- Review project specifications, administrative and technical practices, design instructions, plot plan, flow diagrams and supplier information to execute assigned scope.
- Develop and revise piping layouts and drawings (including GAs and related documents) using project-approved tools and standards.
- Prepare, update and check piping isometrics, tie-in information and associated deliverables to ensure designs are accurate and constructible.
- Prepare and/or validate piping MTOs (bulk, valves and special items) and support quantities reporting as required.
- Participate in 3D model reviews and clash resolution with designers and other disciplines; ensure access, operability, maintainability and constructability considerations are addressed.
- Stress Analysis & Pipe Support Coordination (Preferred)
- Support piping stress analysis activities by providing accurate design inputs (routing, elevations, wall penetrations, equipment nozzle data and proposed support locations).
- Assist in preparation of stress sketches / mark-ups and coordinate changes required by stress findings (loops, flexibility, supports, anchors/guides).
- Coordinate piping load and nozzle load information with Civil/Structural and Mechanical as required; support timely closure of interfaces.
- Assist in development of pipe support requirements (support location plans, standard/special support inputs) and respond to related technical queries.
- Piping Materials Engineering & Procurement Support (Preferred)
- Develop and maintain the line list and piping service / line designation information for assigned scope.
- Prepare and maintain piping specialty items lists and datasheets; prepare valve, flange, fitting and SP-item datasheets as required.
- Support development and update of material requisitions (MR) and assist in technical bid evaluations (TBE) for piping bulk materials, valves and special items.
- Review vendor drawings/documents related to piping and materials; manage technical clarifications and deviations in coordination with the Lead/Principal.
- Interface with procurement and QA/QC to support material compliance, documentation and traceability requirements (as applicable to project scope).
- Quality, Checking & Engineering Governance
- Execute work in accordance with agreed codes, standards and project procedures; complete checking/back-checking as required by the project quality plan.
- Review and comment on other disciplines’ drawings and supplier information where piping interfaces exist; ensure updates are captured in master documents.
- Maintain clear document control practices, progress reporting and timely communication of issues/risks to the Area/Lead Engineer.
- Construction / Site Support (As Assigned)
- Support construction by interpreting drawings/specifications, responding to RFIs/field queries and implementing approved design modifications.
- Assist with site surveys/walkdowns and verification of existing conditions for brownfield tie-ins; collect data and photographs as required.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience (as Requested)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 8+ years relevant experience in piping engineering within Oil & Gas / Energy / Process industries, preferably within EPC/EPCM delivery environments.
- Strong experience in piping design and layout deliverables (2D/3D), isometrics and MTOs.
- Preferably able to perform or support piping stress analysis tasks (e.g., basic model set-up, checks, load/nozzle data coordination) and pipe support coordination.
- Preferably able to perform or support piping materials engineering and procurement activities (line list, PMS/line classes, datasheets, MRs, TBEs, vendor document review).
- ADNOC standards awareness is an advantage; GCC experience is an advantage; familiarity with Worley systems and work processes is a plus.
Typical Deliverables (Examples)
- Piping layouts / GA drawings, piping plans and related drawings.
- Piping isometrics, tie-in packages/lists, line list updates, MTOs.
- Datasheets (valves, fittings, flanges, specialty items), line classes/PMS inputs (as applicable).
- Support location inputs and stress-related design updates (as applicable).
- Vendor document review comments, MR/TBE support packages (as applicable)
Core Competencies
- Strong piping design fundamentals and ability to deliver high-quality drawings and documentation.
- Working knowledge of piping codes/standards and ability to apply project specifications.
- Good coordination skills across disciplines and with vendors; clear written and verbal communication.
- Proactive safety mindset and adherence to project HSE requirements.
- Continuous learning attitude (stress, materials and procurement exposure preferred).
