Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation, the Occupational Therapist is expected to demonstrate clinical knowledge and understanding relevant to their practice area, aligning with their individual scope of practice. This role requires an awareness of their responsibilities within the patient's care plan, along with a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology, evidence-based practice, and Occupational Therapy services across the lifespan. The Occupational Therapist must also adhere to M42 and comply with DOH/DHA policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver evidence-based interventions to address patients' physical, cognitive, psychological, and functional needs.
  • Establish patient-centered rehabilitation goals, educate patients and caregivers, and regularly monitor progress using appropriate outcome measures, modifying treatment plans as required.
  • Manage complex rehabilitation caseloads, identify clinical risks or deterioration, and ensure safe, effective, and timely interventions throughout the patient's rehabilitation journey.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality care, facilitate clinical handovers, and support continuity of care across the rehabilitation continuum.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, reports, billing records, and administrative requirements in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, service development projects, clinical audits, and the implementation of best practices to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
  • Support professional development through ongoing education, mentorship, supervision of junior staff and students, participation in clinical education activities, and maintenance of required professional licensure and CME requirements.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to person-centered care, service excellence, effective communication, patient advocacy, and adherence to organizational values, policies, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in occupational therapy in a large hospital.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, with a focus on continuous professional development.
  • Proficiency in splinting, particularly for clients with neurological dysfunction.
  • Demonstrated experience and formal training in intermediate-level wheelchair service provision (e.g. ISWP or equivalent), in alignment with WHO guidelines.
  • Experience in neuro-rehabilitation across post-acute rehabilitation, slow-stream rehabilitation, and long-term care settings
  • Competence in cognitive, perceptual, and psychosocial rehabilitation to enhance daily functioning and participation
