The Mechanical Site Engineer for substation projects is responsible for supervising and executing all mechanical works at site, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines. This role involves hands-on site coordination, inspection, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems such as transformer auxiliaries, firefighting systems, HVAC, oil filtration systems, and associated equipment. The engineer plays a key role in ensuring quality workmanship, resolving site issues, and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and other discipline teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities:1. Site Execution & Supervision
Supervise day-to-day mechanical activities at the substation site.
Ensure installation of mechanical systems such as transformers' cooling systems, firefighting systems, HVAC units, piping, pumps, and oil handling systems as per approved drawings and specifications.
Monitor contractor activities and ensure proper resource utilization.
Verify alignment, leveling, and installation quality of mechanical equipment.
Ensure all activities are completed as per project schedule and milestones.
2. Installation & Commissioning
Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of all mechanical equipment.
Coordinate with vendors and specialists during equipment installation and startup.
Conduct pre-commissioning checks and ensure systems are functioning as intended.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues during commissioning stage.
Maintain records of commissioning activities and reports.
3. Quality Control & Inspection
Ensure all works comply with project specifications, approved method statements, and quality standards.
Conduct routine inspections and prepare inspection reports.
Raise site observations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Coordinate with QA/QC engineers for inspections and approvals.
Verify material deliveries and ensure they meet technical requirements.
4. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with electrical, civil, and other discipline teams for smooth execution of activities.
Liaise with subcontractors, vendors, and consultants regarding mechanical works.
Participate in daily/weekly site meetings and provide updates on mechanical progress.
Resolve site conflicts and technical issues in consultation with the engineering team.
5. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
Ensure all mechanical activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations.
Enforce use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures at site.
Conduct safety checks and participate in toolbox talks.
Identify risks and implement mitigation measures.
Report incidents and ensure corrective actions are taken.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily site reports, progress reports, and activity logs.
Prepare material inspection reports (MIR), work inspection reports (WIR), and checklists.
Keep records of drawings, revisions, and site instructions.
Assist in preparation of as-built drawings and project documentation.
Qualifications and Requirements:Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
3–7 years of experience in site execution of mechanical works in substation or power projects.
Experience in high-voltage substations (132kV, 220kV, 400kV) is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems used in substations (HVAC, firefighting, oil systems).
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and layouts.
Familiarity with standards such as IEC, NFPA, and relevant local regulations.
Knowledge of installation procedures, testing methods, and commissioning practices.
Soft Skills:

Good communication and coordination abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
