Key Responsibilities
Personal Care: Nurse assistants help patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. They ensure that patients maintain proper hygiene and comfort.
Mobility Assistance: They assist patients in moving around safely, whether it’s getting in and out of bed, walking, or using mobility aids.
Monitoring Vital Signs: Nurse assistants are responsible for measuring and recording vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and respiration rate. They report any changes to the nursing staff.
Feeding and Nutrition: They help patients with eating, ensuring that dietary restrictions and preferences are respected. This may include feeding patients who are unable to do so themselves.
Documentation: Nurse assistants document patient care activities and observations in medical records, ensuring accurate and timely communication with the healthcare team.
Emotional Support: They provide emotional support to patients and their families, helping them understand the care being provided and addressing any concerns.
Assisting with Medical Procedures: Under the supervision of registered nurses, nurse assistants may assist with basic medical procedures and administer medications as directed.
Maintaining a Safe Environment: They are responsible for keeping patient areas clean and safe, which includes changing bed linens and sanitizing equipment.
Qualifications
Diploma of Nursing not less than eighteen (18) months course duration.
