Job Description

As a Medical Coder, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare industry by ensuring accurate translation of medical records into standardized codes utilized for billing, insurance, and statistical purposes. Your expertise in understanding different classification systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of healthcare data and ensuring that healthcare providers receive timely reimbursements for their services. You will work closely with healthcare professionals to review clinical documents and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes, fully complying with regulations and guidelines. The role demands high attention to detail, proficiency in using electronic health records (EHRs), and excellent communication skills to liaise with different stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.


Responsibilities

  • Accurately translate complex medical diagnoses into standardized code sets.
  • Review and analyze patient health records or data for coding purposes.
  • Ensure all codes assigned adhere to legal standards and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to verify accuracy of clinical documentation.
  • Keep updated with latest coding developments and healthcare coding guidelines.
  • Identify and rectify any coding errors or discrepancies in medical records.
  • Assist with the resolution of billing discrepancies to facilitate timely payments.
  • Contribute to data quality and integrity in internal and external reporting.
  • Participate in coding audits to uphold accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide coding expertise as part of patient case review and quality assurance teams.
  • Utilize coding software and electronic health records efficiently for daily tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or similar required.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy for accurate coding.
  • Proven experience with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in handling sensitive data.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHRs) systems effectively.
  • Ability to manage workload efficiently while adhering to stringent timelines.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals.
  • Familiarity with healthcare billing processes, insurance claims, and reimbursements.
  • Ability to participate in continued education to stay abreast of coding updates.
  • Problem-solving skills to address any issues arising in the coding process.
