Mechanical Assembly & Integration Technician

Overview

This role focuses on building and integrating mechanical components used in marine and subsea systems. The technician will work closely with engineering teams to assemble equipment, support testing activities, and ensure that all mechanical work meets required quality and safety standards. The position is hands‑on and requires strong mechanical aptitude and a disciplined approach to following technical instructions.

Main Duties

Assembly & Build Work

  • Construct mechanical units and subassemblies using engineering drawings, 3D references, and written instructions.
  • Install mechanical elements such as seals, bearings, fasteners, and fittings using correct assembly practices.
  • Combine mechanical structures with electrical, electronic, or hydraulic components when required.
  • Carry out basic measurements, alignment checks, and visual inspections during the build process.
  • Assist in producing prototype components under guidance.

Testing & Field Support

  • Help prepare systems for integration and testing activities.
  • Participate in mechanical and system‑level tests, including setup and teardown.
  • Support sea‑based trials and post‑trial inspections.
  • Assist with leak checks, pressure testing, and mechanical verification tasks.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Contribute to assembly notes, checklists, and test documentation as needed.

Workshop Responsibilities

  • Keep tools, equipment, and work areas organized and safe.
  • Follow workshop procedures, tool‑control practices, and all safety guidelines.

Required Background

Education & Experience

  • Technical diploma or vocational qualification in mechanical assembly, industrial mechanics, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of hands‑on experience in mechanical assembly or integration.
  • Experience in marine, subsea, aerospace, automotive, or precision‑engineering environments is beneficial.

Technical Capabilities

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and basic GD&T.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, torque tools, and measurement instruments.
  • Understanding of:
    • Fastening methods and torque application
    • Sealing components (O‑rings, gaskets)
    • Alignment, tolerances, and mechanical fits
  • Awareness of materials and corrosion behaviour in marine environments is an advantage.

  • Strong attention to detail and manual accuracy.
  • Ability to follow structured procedures consistently.
  • Good communication and teamwork.
  • Reliable, safety‑focused, and disciplined.
