The Material Officer (Controller) is responsible for controlling and coordinating aircraft maintenance material requirements during maintenance inputs, ensuring materials are identified, demanded, received, segregated, issued, tracked, and returned in line with production priorities. The role acts as the operational link between Production, Material Planning, Stores, Receiving, Issue Counter, Logistics, and Quality teams to minimize material-related delays, support AOG and critical spare requirements, and maintain accurate material status visibility across shifts. The position ensures that material control activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and aviation MRO standards.
Responsibilities
1. Pre-load Material Control & Shortage Resolution
Perform inventory checks of pre-load material prior to and during maintenance input, ensuring required materials are available and correctly positioned for production use.
Liaise with the Material Planner to identify, track, and resolve shortages highlighted during the pre-load process, supporting maximum production workflow efficiency.
Place material demands and coordinate receipt of required parts from Stores, Issue Counter, or Hangar Pre-load Stores to minimize operational impact caused by material shortages.
Maintain accurate visibility of material availability, shortage status, and critical spare requirements in coordination with planning and production stakeholders.
2. Material Issue, Tracking & Task Card/NRC Updates
Update the task card/NRC regularly with material availability information provided by the Material Planner assigned to the maintenance input.
Track material movements from demand creation through receipt, issue, delivery, consumption, return, or cancellation, ensuring accurate system and operational records.
Ensure material is delivered to the correct aircraft, bay, zone, or work area in line with production priorities and planned workflow requirements.
Maintain a clear shift handover log covering open demands, shortages, critical spares, AOG parts, and potential material risks requiring follow-up.
Coordinate closely with Stores, Receiving, Issue Counter, Logistics, and Production teams for immediate processing and delivery of AOG and critical parts.
Follow up with all concerned parties to ensure urgent material is processed, routed, collected, and delivered promptly to avoid maintenance delays.
Verify documentation, routing, collection, and movement of ship-shop-ship items, ensuring timely processing and minimal impact to the planned production workflow.
Escalate potential critical spare risks to the Project Manager, Material Planner, and relevant stakeholders for timely decision-making.
4. Segregation, Returns, Compliance & Communication
Ensure received serviceable material is correctly segregated according to allocated areas, zones, and aircraft inputs, and that unserviceable off-coming material is kept separate to prevent misidentification.
Ensure unused material is returned to Stores in a timely manner (Within 24hrs) with all relevant system actions completed accurately.
Attend daily production meetings and provide clear updates on material status, shortages, AOG items, critical spares, and requirements affecting workflow decisions.
Initiate prompt action to resolve SDRs, AMOS TAQs, Quality findings, and Health & Safety findings allocated to the area of responsibility.
Promote and practice a strong Health & Safety culture.
