Job Purpose
Ensure the Organization’s taxation (“Direct and indirect") compliance and optimize its taxation position through strategic planning and effective management of Taxation-related activities. Minimize taxation liabilities, manage taxation risks, and ensure adherence to all relevant taxation laws and regulations. Support the Organization’s financial health and sustainability by implementing innovative taxation strategies and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the taxation department.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 1)
Taxation Compliance
- Ensure the organization adheres to all relevant federal, state, local, and international direct and indirect tax laws and regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in taxation legislation and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
- Prepare and file accurate taxation returns, including income, sales, property, and other business taxes.
- Coordinate with government authorities to obtain taxation exemptions and manage day-to-day tax-related activities.
Taxation Planning
- Develop and implement effective taxation strategies to minimize taxation liabilities and optimize the organization’s corporate tax, VAT and Emirates taxation position.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of taxation issues and opportunities.
- Advise senior management on the taxation implications of business decisions and transactions, including business acquisitions and mergers.
Taxation Returns
- Oversee the preparation and review of complex direct and indirect tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with external taxation advisors and auditors to facilitate the taxation return process.
- Ensure timely filing of all taxation returns to avoid penalties and interest.
Risk Management
- Identify potential taxation risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct regular taxation risk assessments and implement controls to manage identified risks.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of taxation positions and decisions.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 2)
Taxation audits
- Manage and coordinate taxation audits conducted by taxation authorities.
- Prepare and present documentation and responses to audit inquiries.
- Negotiate with taxation authorities to resolve audit issues and disputes.
Transfer pricing
- Lead the development and implementation of transfer pricing strategies to ensure compliance with international taxation laws, optimize taxation positions, and minimize risks through thorough economic analyses and accurate documentation.
- Oversee transfer pricing audits, prepare and present detailed reports to senior management, and provide insights on legislative changes and their impacts.
Reporting
- Prepare detailed reports on the Company’s taxation situation for senior management and stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on tax-related matters, including changes in legislation and their impact on the organization.
- Develop and maintain tax-related metrics and KPIs.
Process Improvement
- Develop and implement best practices for taxation processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Continuously review and improve taxation workflows and systems.
- Implement technology solutions to streamline taxation operations.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 3)
Team Management
- Lead and mentor the taxation team, providing guidance and support to ensure professional growth and development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
General Responsibilities
- Deeper understanding of all the taxation laws applicable to the organisation including Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing and Value Added Tax.
- Understanding of the Company’s business and the issues involved.
- Engage in technical research on the latest case laws and circulars.
- To keep updated with case laws and assist senior management in the application of the ratio of the judgements in the assignments handled.
- Attend external training and keep updated with the latest developments.
- Comply with all UAE, ADNOC, ADNOC Drilling and client Legal, HSE and Asset Integrity Management codes of practice.
Generic Accountabilities
Operational Plans
- Develop consistent and realistic long and short term operational plans for the Department in line with the Division objectives and manage the implementation of the approved long and short term plans and ensure they are effectively converted into its performance objectives to realise the Division Objectives and established service levels.
Budgets and Operational Plans
- Develop and manage the Department annual budget in line with the Division’s business objectives and operational plans ensuring that adequate funding provision is made for all Department activities.
- Monitor expenditure against approved Department budget on a regular basis; investigate, highlight and reconcile any significant variances to ensure effective performance and cost control.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Develop and implement appropriate Department policies, processes, systems, standards, procedures and internal controls, Company guidelines in order to support execution of the Division’s work programs in line with Company and International standards.
Performance Management
- Contribute to the development of the Division’s KPI’s and ensure proper cascade of the Performance objectives within the Department and establish monitoring mechanisms to ensure delivery of these objectives and promote a performance driven culture.
- Manage the implementation of the Company Performance Management System for individuals within the Department in accordance with Company approved guidelines.
People Development
- Develop knowledge, competencies and innovative spirit in the Department and support the establishment of Personal Development Plans (PDP’s), Succession Planning and Talent pipeline within the Department in coordination with the Human Capital to continuously develop employees with emphasis on UAE Nationals to meet Emiratization targets.
Organisation Structure and Development
- Review, develop and recommend the appropriate organisation structure for the Department that will best utilise human capital while proactively incorporating sustainability into the on-going work practices to meet the business objectives.
Risk Management
- Contribute and support establishment of a Corporate Integrated Risk Management System within the Department, while identifying and assessing relevant domain risks and implement measures to manage and mitigate all identified risks within the Department.
- Communicate corporate business ethics and Company’s Code of Conduct to employees within the Department and ensure compliance to the Corporate Policies and guidelines.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Promote an organisation culture that encourages innovation, enhances employee motivation and supports initiatives for implementation of Change Management to continuously improve the Department operations and services.
- Recommend improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the Department.
Generic Accountabilities (continue)
Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
- Support the institution and implementation of an HSE culture and ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures, systems & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines across the Department in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.
- Ensure adequate HSE training and induction for all Department employees to meet HSE standards.
Management Information Systems (MIS) and Reports
- Ensure that all Department MIS and progress reports are prepared to provide accurate and timely reports and necessary information to Company Management to effectively manage the business.
Internal Communications & Working Relationships
Contact with line Manager/ peers and other employees within the company/Group as required
External Communications & Working Relationships
Contact with external parties including consultants, third party service providers, and government agencies as required
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, Business Administration or equivalent (both Direct & Indirect), plus a recognised professional Taxation qualification such as ACMA, ACCA, CA or CPA.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- 10 to 12 years of experience in Taxation (both Direct & Indirect) in a major organization, out of which at least 8 years at the supervisory level, preferably in a regulated industry across different countries and in various ERPs like SAP, Oracle, etc.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Strong analytical and computing ability
Professional Certifications
ACMA, ACCA, CA or CPA.
