Job Description

The Manager of Retail Buying is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing and directing the purchasing activities for a retail organization. This position involves developing and implementing strategic buying plans to maximize profitability and ensure a robust inventory of products that meet consumer demands. The Manager of Retail Buying works closely with various departments, including marketing and sales, to align buying strategies with overall business objectives. They are tasked with analyzing market trends and consumer preferences, negotiating with suppliers for favorable terms, and managing a team of buyers. Ensuring product quality and maintaining strong supplier relationships are crucial aspects of the role. Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee strategic buying plans to maximize retail profitability.
  • Research and analyze market trends to predict consumer purchasing trends effectively.
  • Negotiate contracts and prices with suppliers to achieve the best terms.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to align buying with business goals.
  • Manage and mentor a team of retail buyers to enhance productivity.
  • Review and approve purchase orders to ensure alignment with spending budgets.
  • Maintain and cultivate strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Monitor inventory levels to prevent overstock and stockouts effectively.
  • Ensure quality control processes are in place for all purchased goods.
  • Prepare and present reports on buying activities and results to senior management.
  • Stay informed about competitor activities and pricing strategies in the market.
  • Implement best practices in sourcing and procurement to optimize cost efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of five years experience in retail buying or merchandising roles.
  • Proven track record of successful negotiation and supplier relationship management.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret market data effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with teams.
  • Proficiency with retail management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.
