Synopsis



The Manager Safety Investigations (MSI) reports to the Senior Manager Safety Investigations and is responsible for the effective implementation of safety investigations in the respective area.

  • The MSI is responsible for the following functions in relation to CAR - AIR Ops, CAR SMS, CAR-OCR and AAIR regulations and corresponding IOSA standards:
  • Ensure the implementation, documentation, maintenance, and day-to-day administration of Etihad safety investigations to meet the objectives of the SMS program.
  • Analye triggered events and trends and determine if further investigative action needs to be taken.
  • Supervise a team of safety investigators and ensure the conduct of effective internal safety investigations in relation to CAR SMS, CAR-OCR and CAR - AIR Ops requirements.
  • Coordinate and liaise with various internal operational departments and external entities to provide feedback on safety issues identified through safety investigations.
  • Support the lead safety investigator/ representative of the Safety Department in the company emergency response go-team, with regards to any accident or serious incident.
  • Ensure that departmental safety investigations include the identification of safety hazards, the identification of accident causal analysis, relevant findings, and safety recommendations to improve safety in the operating environment and reduce the likelihood of repeated and/or potential safety incidents.
  • Work with operational departments to integrate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead investigations of safety-related incidents and occurrences.
  • Support facilitation of safety risk management processes, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation.

Accountabilities



  • Support continuous monitoring, compliance and improvement of SMS performance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving safety regulations and best practices.
  • Promote a positive, just, and proactive safety culture across all Operational departments.
  • Encourage voluntary reporting and support a non-punitive reporting environment.
  • Support the internal safety reporting system and ensure timely analysis of reports.
  • Ensure root cause analysis and development of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Monitor key safety performance indicators (SPIs) and safety assurance metrics.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of mandatory safety reports to authorities.
  • Ensure systematic identification and control of operational safety risks.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the safety team or department.
  • Participate in the safety elements of the emergency exercises and drills.
  • Promote and enforce a positive safety culture across the organization.
  • Recommend changes to operational procedures where not tolerable safety risks are identified.
  • Initiate safety investigations or reviews independently, when required.

Education & Experience



  • In-depth knowledge of Civil Aviation Standards & Regulations In-depth knowledge of Safety Management Systems Knowledge of Risk Assessment techniques and methodologies.
  • Advanced computer literacy in MS Office productivity applications Fluent in written and spoken English Excellent report writing skills Aviation related professional qualification or degree
  • At least 5 years total working experience Extensive operational experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Make recommendations and support the development of enhancements to safety policies, processes, and procedures, with particular attention to safety investigation.
  • Perform effectiveness checks on elements of relevant processes and required communication channels between departments to ensure their robustness.
  • Liaise with the Manager Safety Training & Promotion on content for dissemination (both internal and external) relating to safety investigation findings and trends.
  • Ensure close collaboration with Safety department personnel regarding safety risks, findings and recommendations identified in safety investigations (both internal and external).
  • Compose and/or review safety reports for publication to the relevant internal and/or external stakeholders and government authorities.
  • Ensure that departmental safety investigation performance targets are met.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities, as reasonably expected, may be assigned as required.
