The Lifting Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and controlling all lifting operations on construction sites to ensure safe and efficient execution in compliance with approved lifting plans, project specifications, and applicable safety regulations. The role provides direct oversight of crane operations, rigging activities, and material handling, with full authority to stop unsafe lifting activities and enforce safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, supervise, and control all lifting operations including cranes, hoists, and rigging activities.
Prepare, review, and implement lifting plans, method statements, and risk assessments for routine and critical lifts.
Conduct pre-lift inspections of lifting equipment, rigging gear, lifting appliances, and site conditions.
Ensure lifting activities are carried out in accordance with approved Permit-to-Work (PTW), lifting plans, and safety procedures.
Coordinate closely with crane operators, riggers, site engineers, HSE personnel, and subcontractors.
Review and verify load charts, lifting calculations, crane configurations, and rigging arrangements.
Supervise critical, heavy, and tandem lifting operations as per project and safety requirements.
Monitor ongoing lifting activities and take immediate corrective action to prevent unsafe conditions, accidents, or equipment damage.
Exercise authority to stop any lifting operation deemed unsafe or non-compliant.
Ensure all lifting equipment, cranes, and accessories are properly certified, inspected, and maintained.
Maintain accurate records of lifting plans, inspections, permits, certifications, and approvals.
Investigate lifting-related incidents and near-misses and implement corrective and preventive measures.
Provide toolbox talks, training, and guidance to riggers, crane operators, and site personnel on safe lifting practices.
Working Conditions
Field-based role requiring continuous site presence.
Mandatory compliance with PPE and HSE requirements.
Exposure to heavy equipment, lifting operations, heights, and outdoor site conditions.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in lifting operations within construction or heavy industrial projects.
Valid certification as Lifting Supervisor / Appointed Person or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of crane operations, rigging practices, load calculations, and lifting equipment.
Familiarity with construction safety regulations, lifting standards, and permit systems.
Ability to read and interpret lifting plans, drawings, load charts, and method statements.
Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
High safety awareness with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
