We are now looking for Lead Process Engineer to execute projects and support bids in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Job Overview

The Lead Process Engineer shall be responsible for leading and delivering basic engineering (Pre-FEED/FEL-2 and FEED/FEL-3) for refinery core processing units. The role ensures high-quality process design, technical integrity, and alignment with project requirements, safety standards, licensor guidelines, and client expectations. Lead basic engineering of refinery core process units (e.g., CDU/VDU, FCCU, Hydrocrackers, Hydrotreaters, Reformer, Coker/Crackers) in greenfield and brownfield set-up.

In your role you are expected to demonstrate your proven track record in maintaining proper resourcing in terms of capacity and competence as well as in well organizing projects with proper work sharing, tracking of progress & coordination with Inter disciplines and counter parts/client.

You should have a desire to work on multi-disciplinary local as well overseas projects and be able to drive discipline goals by leading assigned discipline designers and engineers.

Responsibilities And Duties

Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, piping, control, HSE, civil, electrical, project controls).

  • Lead development of Process Design Basis, Heat and Material Balance (H&MB), PFDs, P&IDs, utility summaries, and process descriptions for core refinery/petrochemical units.
  • Define design and operating conditions, equipment duty specifications, and preliminary sizing and validation of distillation columns, reactors, exchangers, compressors, furnaces.
  • Prepare and review key engineering documents:
    • Process datasheets
    • Cause & Effect diagrams
    • Control philosophies
    • Process safeguarding narratives
    • Equipment lists and process interfaces
  • Ensure design consistency with licensor packages, site constraints, and refinery-wide integration (LP model, utilities, offsites).
    • Lead technical discussions with process licensors (e.g., for FCC, Hydrocracker, Coker, Reformer units).
    • Review and validate licensor design packages (PFDs, catalyst requirements, reaction systems, heat integration).
    • Serve as the primary technical interface for client queries, approvals, and design reviews.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain rigorous process simulation models using HYSYS, PRO/II, or equivalent.
  • Perform scenario analysis, sensitivity studies, debottlenecking evaluations, and design optimization.
  • Ensure accuracy of utility consumption, energy integration opportunities, and emission estimates.
  • Provide process engineering deliverables for capital projects: feasibility studies, FEL stages, PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, equipment sizing, and process control strategies.
  • Support the development of the cost estimates and economic analysis.
  • Review and approve design packages from EPC contractors and vendors.
  • Lead commissioning and performance testing of new or revamped units.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve energy efficiency, decarbonization, and product upgrading.
  • Direct the employees and supervision of work related to Process and associated works.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers for resolution of related issues.
  • Maintain the Line Managers daily diary and reports of team members.
  • Coordinate and report to the reporting authority / manager on specific subjects including resourcing, technical issues, project progress, efficiency and performance of the resources / discipline.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality and technical correctness of all Process Engineering deliverables.
  • Coordinate with client, sub-contractors and related concerned authorities.
  • Convene and chair regular team meetings about issues related to Process work and related activities.
  • Ensure prompt exchange of correspondence and approvals.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Participate in estimation for sales enquiries and provide required support for bidding
  • Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards.
  • Manage own time to meet objectives, forecast and plan resource requirements.
  • Develop creative and innovative solutions that are reliable and cost-effective for problems and challenges when they arise.
  • Apply expertise to the most complex problems.
  • Develop and manage plans to achieve business objectives.
  • Direct Process Engineering team as a Lead Engineer.
  • Lead the Discipline engineering design of the assigned work area and complete within planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, MDR and project-specific procedures
  • Plan, organize and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule and all manpower resources - agree allocations with the Discipline Manager.
  • Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified.
  • Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action.
  • Supporting and producing technical and techno-economic studies

Qualifications

  • 8–15+ years in refinery process engineering, with at least 5 years in basic engineering / FEED / licensor engineering.
  • Experience with major refinery units such as CDU/VDU, FCC, Hydrocracker, Hydrotreaters, CCR/Platformer, Delayed Coker, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process design teams for medium-to-large capital projects.
  • Degree in Chemical engineering
  • Well versed with HYSYS and other process software
  • Equipment sizing for oil and gas facility
  • Proficiency in PFD / P & ID
  • Process hydraulic calculations
  • Relief valve and flare header sizing
  • Participation in HAZOP/SIL studies
  • Strong analytical approach
  • Good knowledge of international code and standard, good engineering practice followed for oil and gas facilities.
  • Demonstrate, provide and develop appropriate technical solutions for specific project issues
  • Possess sound technical knowledge and decision-making skills to deliver challenging projects
  • Self-motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer focus and ability to respond to customer needs whilst achieving project and company objectives
  • Having Gas processing, gas treatment, refinery, offshore, onshore experience
  • Experience of brownfield modifications
  • Good cross functional knowledge.
