Title: Lead Civil and Structural Engineer

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE — KBR Office

Job Purpose

  • Provide technical leadership for civil and structural engineering within FEED and Detail Engineering projects in the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Define design bases, codes, standards, and deliverables for civil and structural works to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Oversee the integrity of buildings, foundations, supports, offshore platforms, and related structures throughout front-end and detailed design stages.
  • Mentor engineers, manage interfaces with other disciplines, and ensure adherence to project schedules and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead civil and structural design, analysis, and detailing for FEED and Detail Engineering.
  • Develop and review design bases, codes, standards, drawings, specifications, and datasheets for civil/structural works (foundations, steel structures, concrete, steelwork, supports, access solutions, and platforms).
  • Perform and supervise structural analyses (RCC/steel, finite element analysis as applicable), load calculations, seismic/wind assessments, and foundation design.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes where applicable, API RP, ISO, NFPA) and project-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate interfaces with process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and reliability disciplines; manage vendors, subcontractors, and third-party design reviews.
  • Lead risk assessments related to civil/structural integrity (HAZOP/HAZID, RAM, LOPA) and participate in safety reviews.
  • Review and approve technical deliverables ( drawings, bill of materials, design change requests, MOC/Change Notes, technical queries).
  • Mentor and develop junior civil/structural engineers; support staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and manage execution plans, man-hour estimates, and budgets for civil/structural scope.
  • Ensure QA/QC practices, drawing standards, material specifications, and requisition packages.
  • Support field construction, commissioning, and start-up activities; assist with as-built documentation and punch lists.
  • Stay current with advances in civil/structural engineering and recommend value-added solutions.

Experience

  • Experience: 15+ years in FEED and Detail Engineering and EPCM experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • ADNOC EPC/PMC experience are highly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record delivering civil/structural design and construction-ready packages on FEED/detail projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering with a civil/structural focus.
  • Professional membership or relevant certifications (e.g., PE/Chartered Engineer) are a plus.
  • Certification related to structural integrity, welding, or geotechnical aspects is advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Strong background in civil and structural design, analysis, and detailing for oil & gas facilities.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis tools (e.g., STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS) and 3D modeling software.
  • Familiarity with FEED deliverables, MOC/Change control, and document controls.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards (ACI, AISC, Eurocode, API RP, ISO, NFPA) relevant to civil/structural work.
  • Experience with foundations (concrete, steel, piling), steel structures, reinforced concrete, seismic design, and vibration considerations.
  • Ability to perform structural calculations, load combinations, and safety reviews.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.
