We are seeking an experienced Laboratory/Science Technician to support the delivery of outstanding science education. In this rewarding role, you will work closely with our Science Department to prepare practical lessons, maintain modern laboratory facilities, uphold the highest standards of health and safety, and ensure students and teachers have the resources they need to succeed. Job Purpose:

Organize, prepare and manage all science experiments and practical under the guidance of the Head of the Science Department.

Responsible for the overall maintenance of Science labs and organisation of experiments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and promote the GEMS Core Values, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professionalism.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and registers of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and consumables, ensuring resources are well managed and readily available.
  • Prepare laboratory practical activities and experiments in collaboration with the Head of Science and Science teachers, ensuring all required materials and equipment are available.
  • Maintain laboratories in a clean, organised, and operational state, supporting an effective teaching and learning environment.
  • Monitor laboratory equipment and report any breakages, defects, or maintenance requirements promptly to the Head of Science.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of laboratory health, safety, and risk management procedures in collaboration with the Science Department.
  • Assist in preparing the annual requirements for laboratory consumables, chemicals, glassware, and equipment to support curriculum delivery.
  • Ensure laboratories, preparation rooms, and storage areas are secure and locked when not in use.
  • Comply with all GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and commitment by supporting school activities and departmental requirements beyond normal working hours when necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and committee meetings as required.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by line managers or supervisors that are consistent with the scope of the role.
  • Promote and uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
  • Report all safeguarding concerns promptly through the designated GUARD platform and to the appropriate safeguarding personnel.
  • Adhere fully to GEMS, MOE, and ADEK safeguarding policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Comply with all GEMS Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Report incidents, accidents, near misses, hazards, and unsafe conditions promptly to the line manager or Medical Safety Officer (MSO), using HSE Guard where appropriate.
  • Report defects and HSE-related concerns in a timely manner.
  • Participate in mandatory HSE training and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Support the planning and implementation of appropriate risk assessments and safety controls for laboratory activities and any school activities requiring supervision.

Skills Description

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or a related discipline.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound understanding of laboratory procedures, equipment handling, and safe storage of chemicals.
  • Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage resources efficiently, and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and service.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year's experience in a laboratory technician or similar science support role, preferably within an educational environment.
