Job Description

As an IP Medical Coder for our esteemed healthcare organization, you will play a crucial role in transforming complex medical documentation into standardized codes used for billing and insurance purposes. Your expertise will ensure the accuracy and integrity of patient records while optimizing reimbursement processes. You will be responsible for interpreting detailed medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services. Your keen attention to detail, thorough knowledge of coding practices, and adherence to regulatory guidelines are essential for maintaining compliance and facilitating seamless operations within the healthcare system. This position requires a collaborative spirit, as you will work closely with healthcare providers and insurance companies to resolve discrepancies and optimize coding accuracy.


Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records for accurate and complete code assignment.
  • Utilize ICD-10-CM/PCS codes to facilitate accurate billing and insurance claims.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify information in patient medical records.
  • Maintain compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Ensure coding accuracy through regular audits and quality assurance checks.
  • Participate in coding-related training and development programs as required.
  • Address and resolve discrepancies in coding with insurance companies and providers.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding standards and healthcare regulations.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of coding best practices.
  • Collaborate with billing departments to improve overall revenue cycle management.
  • Use coding software and technology to streamline the coding process efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders in the coding process.

Requirements

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in inpatient medical coding required.
  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines with exceptional accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and coding software.
  • Ability to interpret complex medical records and documentation efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high coding standards.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement policies and regulations is necessary.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
