Job Description

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing effective safety programs and practices, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and promoting a safe work culture within the organization. The primary objective of the HSE Engineer is to mitigate risks, prevent workplace incidents, and foster a culture where employees can work safely and efficiently. This role involves collaborating with various departments to ensure that safety standards and protocols are adhered to, as well as continuously assessing and improving existing safety measures. A successful HSE Engineer must be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills to effectively educate employees on safety practices.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety systems to prevent workplace incidents.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across all workplace environments and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
  • Investigate and analyze workplace incidents to identify root causes and preventative measures.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on HSE policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Draft detailed safety guidelines and procedures for new and existing processes.
  • Liaise with management to integrate safety practices into daily operational activities.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of safety programs and make improvements as necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of safety audits, inspections, and compliance reports.
  • Coordinate with external agencies for audits and compliance inspections as required.
  • Implement emergency response protocols and conduct regular drills with staff.
  • Advise on safety equipment procurement to ensure proper use and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an HSE role, preferably within the industry.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills for effective risk assessment and problem-solving.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to educate and guide employees.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive safety training programs.
