Job Description

The Health and Safety Executive is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for employees within an organization. This position involves developing, implementing, and managing policies and procedures to regulate and promote occupational safety and health standards. The Health and Safety Executive will work closely with management and employees to reduce workplace hazards, prevent accidents, and ensure compliance with government regulations and industry best practices. In addition to conducting safety audits and inspections, this role involves leading safety training sessions and responding to any health and safety incidents promptly and effectively. A dynamic leader with a keen eye for detail, the Health and Safety Executive must possess in-depth knowledge of safety legislation and standards, and demonstrate a practical approach to solving complex safety issues.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with management to identify workplace hazards and devise prevention strategies.
  • Lead safety training sessions for employees to promote a safety-conscious culture.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses and develop corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and corrective actions implemented.
  • Ensure adherence to local, national, and international safety regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and present safety reports to senior management and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning and conduct regular drills and assessments.
  • Advise on the purchase and installation of safety equipment to enhance workplace safety.
  • Work with external safety consultants to conduct specialized safety assessments and audits.
  • Review and update safety protocols regularly to incorporate the latest industry practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety supervisory or managerial role.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, national, and international safety legislation and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective health and safety strategies.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Skilled in performing detailed safety inspections and incident investigations.
